Nautical Star Tattoos A nautical star tattoo is a five armed star with each arm divided into two symmetrical parts, by a straight line. Each of the tattoo design has some typical tattoo history related to its origin. Similarly, nautical star symbol tattoos also have a mysterious history of their origin. In olden days, sailors used to rely on natural landmarks for sea navigation. North star (that points to the north direction, also sometimes referred as pole star) was one such landmark, that could help them decide the direction of their ship. The North star has a fixed position in the sky and thus, one can easily rely on it to know the directions. The sailor group started calling this star as "Nautical Star". They considered this star as their lucky charm, since, it ensured their safe trip home. Thus, they began carving this star in tattoo form, on various parts of their bodies. This nautical star tattoo was a symbol of strength and protection for them. In the beginning of 20th century ,a group of homosexual individuals used this star tattoo to symbolize their sexual tendencies. Since then, the nautical star tattoos on wrist were considered as sign of homosexuality.
